Setting your budget will make it much easier to consider which options are right for you.
At HPD we carry a wide selection of diamonds to ensure that we have the perfect diamond to match your budget.
How much should you spend?
The truth is there is no right or wrong answer. You should spend what feels right to you and ignore any myths which suggest 3 months salary is an acceptable amount!
It's important that you understand that these are the main four factors which contribute to the overall price of a diamond.
Taking your time to learn about and understand the 4C's will make your buying process much smoother!
Now that you understand the 4C's of diamonds you must prioritise which factors are most important to you.
Generally we recommend prioritising in the following order:
1. Cut
The higher the cut grade the more the diamond sparkles.
2. Colour
We recommmend sticking D-H colour diamonds as lower colour grades can be less beautiful.
3. Carat Weight
It's important to choose the right carat weight to fit your budget.
4. Clarity
We only stock Flawless-SI1 diamonds, which means that any inclusions can only be seen microscopically
The next step is to understand the pro's and cons of different diamond shapes.
Considering price per carat weight, round brilliant cut diamonds are the most expensive compared to fancy shaped diamonds (a fancy shaped diamond is any diamond which is not round).
This means that a fancy shaped diamond will be less expensive than a round diamond, even if it has exactly the same cut, colour, clarity & carat weight.
Some fancy shaped diamonds such as oval, emerald cut, marquise & princess cut also have a larger surface area than round brilliant cut diamonds, which means they appear larger for their carat weight.
A diamond certificate has all of the information about the diamond listed on it, so you can have peace of mind that the diamond you are buying is exactly as described.
At HPD we only stock GIA (Gemological Institute of America) Certified diamonds. This is the most trusted diamond grading laboratory world-wide and is renowned for its accuracy in grading diamonds.
Our GIA certified diamonds have also been through the kimberly process, which means that that are responsibly sourced & conflict free!
There are other diamond grading certificates available, however we do recommend sticking to the GIA, so you can be 100% sure that there are no discrepancies in the grading of your stone.
Buying a diamond can often be a stressful & emotional experience, which is why it's important that your purchase is backed up with a warranty.
