The shape of a diamond is often mistaken for its cut, these are two very different categories. The shape of a diamond refers to its form, whereas the cut of a diamond refers to its cut grade, or in others words its ability to reflect light.

Round brilliant Cut Diamond
The round brilliant cut diamond is by far the most popular shape for diamond engagement rings. The triangular facets of the round brilliant cut are specifically arranged to reflect light through the table (top) of the diamond, beautifully highlighting its brilliance.
This diamond is cut with 58 facets, designed to maximise its brilliance and fire. This is why round brilliant cut diamond are known to sparkle the most.
Oval Shaped Diamond
The oval cut diamond shares many characteristics of the round brilliant. With its soft edges and opulent sparkle, the oval cut can often appear much larger than its actual carat weight. This is thanks to its flattering elongated shape, which can give the illusion of longer and slimmer fingers.
Cushion Cut Diamonds
The cushion cut has a more square appearance than the round brilliant cut. With its curved edges and rounded corners, this diamond offers something a little different to the eye. Although this shape of diamond doesn't quite have as much brilliance as a round brilliant cut, the triangular facets of the cushion cut still give it plenty of brilliance and fire.
Emerald Cut Diamonds
The emerald cut diamond is characterised by a large open table and a step cut pavillion, the rectangular facets of the pavillion create a unique hall of mirrors in the diamond. This means that light reflects differently in an Emerald cut diamond to other diamonds. The clean look of an emerald cut diamond can give a fine jewellery an art-deco style appearance.
The emerald cut was originally named in the 1920's, as this was the cut used most often in Emeralds.
Princess Cut Diamonds
The princess cut diamond is popular for its versatility for looking good in many styles of ring. It's pyramid shape appears square from the top, making these diamonds appear larger than their actual carat weight. The princess cut diamond is the only shape of diamond with right angled edges, which is why it is often set with four claws on each corner to protect these angles. These are the weaker areas of the diamond and the most likely to chip under large amounts of force of pressure.
Marquise Diamonds
The marquise is a striking, unusually shaped diamond. Its long narrow shape elongates the finger and can often make the diamond look larger than its carat weight. The marquise diamond has one of the largest surface areas on a carat weight basis than any other fancy shaped diamond, making it a good choice when trying to maximise the size perception.
Pear Shaped Diamonds
Also known as a teardrop, the pear shaped diamond is an elegant and feminine cut with a combination of a marquise and a round brilliant cut, distinguished by its single point and rounded end. Like the marquise, the length of a pear shaped diamond can make it appear bigger than its actual size.
There is no right or wrong way to wear a pear shaped diamond, but it is traditionally worn with a pointed end facing up.
Asscher Cut Diamonds
The asscher cut diamond is distinguished by its square shaped with diagonally cut corners. Choosing colour and clarity is important in an asscher cut diamond, as inclusions can be more visible, due to its long facets and open table. We recommend a clarity of VS2 or above to ensure no inclusions are visible to the naked eye.
Radiant Cut Diamonds
The radiant cut diamond look similar to an emerald cut diamond and is distinguished by its rectangular shape with triangular facets, which give this shape plenty of sparkle. The trimmed corners are a signature for this diamond.
Heart Shaped Diamonds
As a renowned symbol of love, the heart shaped diamond is the most romantic cut. Heart shaped diamonds are modified round brilliant cut diamonds. This means that the fire and sparkle associated with round brilliant cut diamonds is also reflected in the heart shape.
